Heavyweight, rigid, and built to age. This 16oz black selvedge denim is woven on traditional shuttle looms, producing a dense, tightly constructed cloth with the substance and character that raw denim enthusiasts look for.
Weave & Construction
- Right-hand twill, with a pronounced diagonal rib that gives the surface a rich, directional grain
- Black-dyed warp yarns interlaced with natural white weft yarns, creating the fine salt-and-pepper speckle that gives the cloth its depth
- Tight, even weave density for a stable, durable fabric with minimal distortion
- Self-finished selvedge edge with a tidy dotted binding and a fine black ID line
Texture & Hand
- Dry, matte face with a slightly napped, slubby surface
- Firm and rigid out of the loom, softening gradually with wear
- Lighter gray-white reverse side with a visible twill ribbing
- Holds its structure when folded or draped
Fading Behavior
Raw and unwashed in character, this denim is designed to wear in rather than wear out. Expect the deep black to break down into charcoal and soft gray, with high-contrast creasing at the knees, hips, and seat as the white weft shows through.
Sanforized Finish
Mechanically pre-shrunk during finishing, so the fabric has minimal residual shrinkage. This makes cutting, sewing, and sizing more predictable, and finished garments hold their dimensions after the first wash.
