Craft Your Own Jacket guide

Below is a step by step guide explaining the craft your own jacket process.  Like our craft your own jeans offering the process begins with selecting your preferred fabric first and then your style of choice.  We have a choice of 12 different outerwear styles for you to choose from, all of which can be further customised if need be.  Once you choose your ‘Jacket Style’ other customisable options such as sizing (choice between standard sizing or enter your own measurements), stitching color choice, collar type, jacket lining options, leather patch and button types are all available for your selection.

1. Choose your preferred fabric for customisation:

First things first choosing your fabric will be the first step embarking you on your Craft Your Own Jacket journey.  With over 25 different Japanese selvedge denims to choose from you are spoilt for choice. The denims differ in terms of color, weight, selvedge ID and composition (with stretch and without stretch).  We have a brief description of each fabric which will show at the top of the page once selected.

We have two options for you to choose from - Raw or One Wash.

Our raw option is our most sought after and is preferred by a majority of denim heads.  It’s denim in its purest form.  We cut your order straight from the Selvedge denim you select,  without any further treatment.

One Wash/
Our one wash option is suitable for those after a more comfortable wear experience from the get go.  Raw denim enthusiasts embrace the rigid feel of the raw material and prefer to wear them in without any wash.  Our one wash treatment option is raw denim that has been pre washed to softens the cotton fibers and provide a smooth wear experience from the get go.

Choose wisely, both options will still garner patina and fades.

3. Choose your preferred jacket style.

With over 10 different outerwear styles to choose from, the second step is to select your preferred jacket style. Alterations or renditions to the style in terms of pocket placement/s and pocket types can be discussed or mentioned in the additional comments section.  Ask and you shall receive.

4.  Choose your Size :

Once you’ve selected the fabric, the next and probably most important step is choosing the best size for you.  We let you select from our running sizes or you can choose to enter your own measurements, both options are equally popular depending on what you are after.  If you decide to select from our range of sizes it is important you go through our size charts for the selected jacket style. If our ready to wear fit is good you can simply select a standard size ranging from XS to XL. For our complete ready-to-wear size guide, please have a look at our jacket style page here.
Alternatively if you choose to enter your own measurements it’s important you read our how to measure guide which outlines necessary measurements we require to make your jacket. When entering your own measurements please follow our how to measure guide and enter your preferred measurements accordingly.  We will make your jacket based on your size selection or made to measure measurements.

5.  Choose your Collar Style:

Once you’ve chosen your size we start customising other details, beginning with your collar style.  We have two different collar styles for you to choose from.  First one is  the classic collar as per original design.  Second one is a band collar also known as a mandarin collar which we typically apply to our biker vest but can also be applied to other jackets.

6.  Choose your Stitch Color :

Coats quality thread is used on all our pairs we have 16 different thread colors for you to choose from. Mix and match thread colors to see which one matches your jacket style the best.  If you would like to select two colors on one jacket, please specify what additional color in the additional comments section.  The first color mentioned will be the main stitch color, the complimentary color to be mentioned in the additional comments section will be the second.

Finishing touches on your jacket includes selecting your preferred leather patch & its placement, button type and pocket reinforcement style.  These choices are usually very personal and are very important to determining how they ultimately turn out.  Below are the choices for leather patch, buttons and rivets.  For leather patch choices we have three options.

7.  Choose your preferred Leather Patch.

Natural Cow Hide - Our cow hide leather are sourced from a local dealer who imports quality leather from across the globe primarily Australia, Japan and Poland. Our natural cow hide patch is 2mm thick, which slowly ages along with your denim garnering beautiful patina with time.  The cow hide leather patch is stamped with our full logo providing a more retro vintage vibe.

Horse Hide - Our horse hide leather patch is also sourced from a local dealer.  The horse hide patch is hand stamped with ‘nama denim’ in cursive drawing a more premium appeal. Over time the horse hide ages well with most of the hairs seen slowly rubbing off.

No Patch - This is catered to the most minimalist of people who dislike logos, brands, and leather.  It’s also for animal, eco right activists and vegans who choose to stay away from this type of consumption.  We do not judge and allow you to choose ‘NO PATCH’.  By choosing this option no leather patch will be applied to your pair of jeans.  If you would like a simple rectangle or square stitching to mimic a patch do mention in ‘additional comments’ section.

8.  Choose your preferred Leather Patch Placement.

Once you have selected your preferred leather patch.  The next option is deciding where it goes on your jacket.  We have options for placement inside or outside the jacket.  The choices available are as follows:

Top Center Back Inside Jacket

Bottom Center Back Inside Jacket

Top Center Back Outside Jacket

Bottom Center Back Outside Jacket

Bottom Left Outside Jacket

Bottom Right Outside Jacket

No Patch

9.  Choose your preferred button type:

Buttons - For button options we currently have seven different buttons from which you can choose from.

Solid Silver Buttons from YKK, Japan
Solid Black Buttons, from YKK, Japan
Solid Brass Buttons, from YKK, Japan
Solid Copper Buttons, from YKK Japan

10.  Choose your preferred pocket reinforcement style:

Pocket Reinforcements - When making a jacket it’s important that all pockets on the jacket are reinforced to ensure longevity and durability for the whole jacket.  The reinforcements occur at the stress or corners points of the pocket/s.  You can choose to reinforce your jacket by simple bar tagging or rivet application.  We have a choice of four different pocket reinforcements:
Brass Rivet
Copper Rivet
Black Rivet
Bar Tagging

11.  Full Lining or No Lining

Our final customisable offering allows you to choose your preferred lining for your jacket.  You can choose to add full lining at an extra cost of $120 or no lining at all.  If you would like to add extra warmth and flair to your jacket make sure you choose our fully lined jacket option.  A range of beautiful plaid and flannel fabrics are available for selection.  Special sherpa lining is also available upon special request (same price).
